Foundations of Leadership is an introductory leadership course that lays a foundation for future leadership development. Using a transformational leadership framework, the program focuses on the importance of self-awareness and self-management, and facilitates a deeper understanding of the basic processes of working effectively with and leading others.

Topics include: Overview of Leadership Principles and Practices; Power, Influence and Human Motivation; Fostering a Culture of Trust and Accountability; Self-awareness and Self-Management; Interpersonal Communication Skills for Leaders; A Leaders Perspective on Workplace Conflict; Managing Change and Transition; and Developing a Personal Leadership Development Plan.

The Foundations of Leadership (FOL) program reflects the recognition that leadership is not dependent on job title or rank; that persons at any level can and should develop and practice leadership skills. Participation in class requires completion of a brief assignment prior to the start of class. (Students will receive information and instructions via e-mail at least one week prior to the first day of class).
