Leadership and Strategic Thinking: Knowing What Questions to Ask
9:00am - 4:00pm
$35 for Client Agencies (includes DPSCS)/ $50 for Non-Client agencies.
Strategic thinking has been the mainstay of organizational creativity, performance and future actions for many years. Yet engaging in strategic planning without first working through a strategic thinking process is equivalent to rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Nice idea, but you have a hole in the boat.
Strategic planning is about providing answers to questions that will guide the future plans and development efforts of the organization. However, strategic thinking looks at the organization in a holistic way to assure that the right questions are being asked.
During this workshop, participants will use the Threats, Strengths, Weaknesses and Gaps (TSWG) strategic thinking process to uncover the essential questions facing an organization. Learning strategies include: some lecture, interactive questions and examples and exercises using specific participant issues and challenges as the basis for training. A strategic thinking process will be modeled and used so that participants can experience each step. In other words, strategic thinking develops an integrated perspective of the enterprise. Once the strategic thinking process is complete, the results are factored into the strategic planning process where answers to the discovered and emerging questions can be addressed.
