The course is an overview of various homemade explosives including some of the more commonly encountered HME’s such as pyrotechnic mixtures and peroxide-based explosives, clandestine drug labs and the similarities and differences they share with clandestine explosive labs, precursor familiarization and recognition and a recent case study involving HME;s in Maryland. A live explosives demonstration, tabletop demonstrations and a HME lab walk-through are part of the course.

The Homemade Explosives course is a six hour training which focuses on recognizing improvised energetic material, homemade explosives, that can be used in association with criminal and terrorist activities. This course is useful for law enfrocement, hazardous materials technicians, fire response, emergency medical service and military units involved in combating terrorism and homeland security.
