The Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission (PTSC) in partnership with Public Safety Education & Training Center’s (PSETC) Leadership Development Institute (LDI) is excited to present the first event of our Leadership Speaker Series!
It's Your Ship: Take charge of your leadership! Join Captain Mike Abrashoff and Stacey Cunningham as they share how to transform your team, reduce burnout, and build a culture of success. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to learn from two leadership legends.

In law enforcement, leadership isn’t just a responsibility – it’s a key driver of safety, engagement, and organizational success. Studies show that nearly 77% of officers believe that leadership directly affects morale within their departments, with effective leaders fostering higher job satisfaction and stronger community ties. Yet, with over 45% of officers considering leaving the profession within five years, the need for transformational leadership is more urgent than ever.
During this event, you’ll hear from Captain Mike Abrashoff, author of It’s Your Ship, who transformed USS Benfold from the worst-performing ship in the Navy’s Pacific Fleet into the best. Mike will share his proven leadership methods and show how he drive change, engagement, and operational excellence – all while working with the same crew and budget. Joining Mike is Stacey Cunningham, author of Ship Happens, who will explain how these same leadership principles can be applied to your organization even in today’s challenging economic and labor conditions.
