General Description
This course is an Instructor Certification program for Emergency Vehicle Operations. The student who successfully completes the program will possess the prerequisites for certification under C.O.M.A.R. as either a Course Safety Officer or a Provisional Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor. This course is for certified police officers only!
Client Agencies are Maryland certified agencies under the regulated authority of the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commissions (MPCTC). Conditions and details on obtaining full Instructor Certification as required by MPCTC can be found here: mpctc.dpscs.maryland.gov/approval.htm. Information for non-client agencies is provided further down in the course description.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: Read thoroughly prior to requesting enrollment as information is new as of 2025. Applicants not adhering to the requirements will be denied or removed unless prerequisites are met. Pre-testing will not be required as of 2025.
T4T: Students must have successfully completed a MPCTC approved basic instructor train-the-trainer certification course prior to attending the 7-day EVO Instructor program. Training coordinators should enter the date of T4T training as the ‘date of promotion’ when requesting student enrollment. This information will be verified prior to confirming each student.
Limits: Each roster is limited to 2 students per agency. Training coordinators can contact Katie.Johnson@maryland.gov to add students to the waitlist.
Users: All users of the Driver Training Facility must have a valid users agreement in force prior to registration. For additional information or confirmation of the user agreement status, contact Driver Training (410) 549-5732 Option #1.
Additional Information
- This roster has a closing date of 1 month (30 days) prior to the course starting date. Any cancellations after the closing date may result in the forfeiture of the registration fee.
- Program costs may be reduced (not waived) if an agency supplies an MPCTC EVO Certified Instructor for the entire program duration. Reduced fees are limited per program date and not guaranteed. A payment method must be provided upon enrollment and course fees will be edited as needed after the course conclusion.
- Agencies holding a seat with a to-be-determined student will need to enter the information TWO MONTHS prior to the course start date. If student information is not entered by this time, the hold will be automatically removed from the roster.
- Applicants from any non-client agencies will be admitted to the class only if there are vacant seats remaining one month prior to the course start date. Interested persons can email a signed registration form to Katie.Johnson@maryland.gov to be added to the non-client waitlist. All forms must have an approving signature in order to register the student. This can be an agency head, supervisor, or training coordinator – someone to authorize the student to take this course. MD Police & Correctional Training Commissions requires credit card information in order to process non-client enrollments (Visa or MasterCard).
