This 3-day course will provide civilian supervisors with ethical foundations of the role of a supervisor, provide practical application of interpersonal communications skills, give insight into Human Resources issues that supervisors are confronted with such as FMLA, ADA, EEO, Time & Attendance, and Absenteeism. Participants will learn about the value and importance of inclusivity and diversity in the workplace. The course will also focus on employment law, to include the formal process for discipline action and grievances. Supervisors will learn the basic steps of problem solving, conflict management, preparing a performance evaluation; and learn team-building skills.
Who should attend? The target audience for this course is civilian first line supervisors and/or aspiring supervisors.
Who should not attend? Sworn law enforcement or correctional certified supervisors and/or administrators, those individuals are required to attend the mandated 5 day (35 hours) First Line Supervisor & Administrator Programs.

DPSCS personnel who are not assigned to an institution and/or do not have a training coordinator should email a signed registration form to Katie.Johnson@maryland.gov in order to enroll. All forms must have an approving signature in order to register the student. This can be an agency head, or unit supervisor – someone to authorize the student to take this course.
