FTF-Revolver Conversion (2-day)

The Firearms Training Unit has developed a new curriculum designed to further develop current firearms instructors. After the introduction of House Bill 218 (LEOSA) in 2005, agency firearms instructors are seeing more and more revolvers on their firing line. This is due to the fact that now retirees can come back and get their LEOSA permit to carry nationwide. Many of our older retirees carried revolvers when they were active and wish to do so in retirement. The problem this creates is that less and less current instructors are certified to teach revolver. If they aren’t certified in revolver, they cannot work a firing line with a revolver. This two day class will allow instructors to add the revolver to the list of weapons they are able to teach.

Please note:This course is only open to MPCTC client-agencies. Client agencies are Maryland certified agencies under the regulated authority of the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commissions (MPCTC).

The Firearms Training Unit will be supplying the weapons, holsters, and speed loaders for each student. MPCTC does NOT supply ammo for this course!! Please ensure enrolled students work with their agency's procurement process in order to purchase the required ammo prior to attending this course. Students will need to bring 500 rounds of .38 special ammo, which can be hollow point, round nose, jacketed, or semi-wad cutter ammo. Do not bring Wad Cutter ammunition as you may have loading issues in the revolver when using speed loaders.

If you have a revolver you wish to use in the school, it will have to be pre-approved by Firearms Staff prior to the start of the school. No race guns! Contact JamieL.Green@maryland.gov with questions regarding weapons. Other equipment students will need for the class is a Sam Browne belt and belt keepers, along with note taking material. Please wear proper range attire, meaning no jeans or graphic t-shirts. BDU's and a logo shirts are preferred.
