MCPI-DARE Officer Training

 

General Description
Certification of new DARE Instructors to include: DARE curricula, working effectively in schools, comprehensive teaching strategies and methodologies, youth development and behavior management. Lodging for the two week course is offered free of charge to client agencies. Some out of class preparation assignments will be required. Certification granted by DARE America and MPCTC upon successful completion of mandated objectives. Candidates are required to have a minimum of two years law enforcement experience, unless waived by DARE America.

Note: Client-agencies are defined as Maryland certified agencies under the regulated authority of the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commissions (MPCTC). Interested persons from non-client (out-of-state) agencies can email a signed registration form which will be reviewed by the Maryland DARE Coordinator to Katie.Johnson@maryland.gov. All forms must have an approving signature in order to register the student. This can be an agency head, supervisor, or training coordinator – someone to authorize the student to take this course. Due to the fee associated with this program, MD Police & Correctional Training Commissions requires credit card information in order to process non-client enrollments (Visa or MasterCard).

Program Approval Information
This two-week certification course is free of cost to all Maryland candidates representing current D.A.R.E. participating agencies or agencies who will be implementing D.A.R.E. programs in their local communities for the 2019-20 school year. Lodging, two meals per day, instruction, and course materials are all provided free by MPCTC. Training candidates representing agencies from outside the state of Maryland will be invoiced a nominal fee to cover the cost of lodging in the training center dormitory and the two meals provided each training day at the center (breakfast and lunch), plus incidentals. These costs are estimated at $60.00 per day. All candidates will be responsible for their own dinner meal each day (and all meals over the weekend if necessary) at any of the many area dining establishments.
