Defensive Tactics Instructor Course (10-Day)

 

General Description
This course will teach candidates the skills needed to teach defensive tactics at the entrance academy and in-service levels. Topics to be taught include Tactical Awareness, Teaching Philosophies in DT, Ground Defense, Takedowns, Takedown Defense, Weapon Retention and Takeaways, Tactical Cuffing, SPEAR Philosophies and use, Using Social Media/Video to our advantage as instructors, Personal Weapons, Recovery from a Grounded Position, Grappling, Clinch Defense/Offense, Krav Maga Choke Defenses, Classroom Safety/Limiting Injuries as a DT Instructor, Time Management as an Instructor.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Prior to being accepted into the program, each student must be able to pass the Cooper’s Fitness Assessment with a minimum score of 50%. Students who fail the physical test will be removed from the roster, and not charged the fee for the course. Students on the waitlist should also attend the physical assessment. This training is a very intense, hands-on and physically demanding course. Extensive classroom work is required. Graduates will be certified by MPCTC as Law Enforcement/Correctional Provisional Instructors. An equipment list will be sent to students who pass the physical assessment.

Client Agencies are Maryland certified agencies under the regulated authority of the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commissions (MPCTC). Non-client agencies interested in attending the course should email a signed registration form to Katie.Johnson@maryland.gov in order to enroll. All forms must have an approving signature in order to register the student. This can be an agency head, or unit supervisor – someone to authorize the student to take this course. MD Police & Correctional Training Commissions requires credit card information in order to process non-client enrollments (Visa or MasterCard).

Agencies holding a TBD seat must provide the student information ONE MONTH PRIOR to the physical assessment date!!

Course cost is $300 for client agencies, $600 for non-client agencies. DPSCS personnel attend at no cost.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Prior to being accepted into the program, each student must be able to pass the Cooper’s Fitness Assessment with a minimum score of 50%. The physical assessment date is scheduled for Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 at 9:00am at the Eastern Correctional Institution (30420 Revells Neck Road, Westover, MD 21890).
