Applying the 4th Amendment - Search & Seizure for Criminal Investigators

This course will include such topics as developing and managing informants, search warrant preparation, limits of a valid search with a warrant, search warrant exceptions, valid consent searches, searches of electronic devices, warrant requirement for GPC devices, Knock and Announce Rule/No Knock Warrants, exclusionary rule/fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine, and procedures for safety executing a search warrant. The program will be delivered by experienced investigators and Assistant State’s Attorney from the Combined County Criminal Investigation Unit of Allegany County.
Officer will have a clear understanding of the legalities and process for a Search and Seizure Application and for the Execution of the Warrant. Topics include Defining Search and Seizure, reasons the Search and Seizure is done, how to write a Search and Seizure Warrant, raid planning and execution and evidence recovery and documentation.
